Chrome OS: Up to nine years update warranty on some Chromebooks
Chromebooks with Chrome OS now seem to have an extremely extended update guarantee.
Chromebooks are supplied with Chrome Os updates by the manufacturers for several years. Of course, this depends on the manufacturer and model.
But now Google is promising what no one else has promised: some new Chromebooks from HP and Lenovo will be provided with updates for nine years. Nine years!
While smartphones already run out after 3 years, Chromebooks have a significantly longer update guarantee. This has been extended over the past few years.
At the beginning it was 5 years, then it was increased to 7 years and last year even to 8 years. So now 9 years, almost a whole decade, users can count on updates.
And so far it is these two models that can count on updates for so long: the HP Pro c645 Chromebook Enterprise and Lenovo ThinkPad C13 Yoga Chromebook Enterprise.
Both devices are mainly intended for companies, and savings are often made there. And that’s why it’s not uncommon for the technology to be in use there for a decade.
Presumably, the hardware of both models will give up rather than reaching the end of the update guarantee.
