Pixel 5: Google Neural Core, Active Edge & unlocking via face recognition no longer exist
The Pixel 5 is very different from the Pixel 4 that was introduced last year. Design isn’t the only area, but there are important changes under the hood as well. With the Pixel 5 it’s time to say goodbye to Google Neural Core, Active Edge & unlocking via face recognition. But let’s be honest, nobody will really miss it. Google goes back to its roots, everything about SchnickSchnack is thrown overboard. A fingerprint sensor on the back is almost a sign of retro, but it shows that you don’t really need it anymore. The Google Neural Core was previously used, among other things, to process photos and video recordings from the camera and to increase the speed of the Google Assistant and Face Unlock. That is missing now, but thanks to the SD765G the chip should have become superfluous. Active Edge was a gimmick that many couldn’t use.
