Samsung will stop supplying Huawei with chips from next week
Samsung’s decision to stop supplying Huawei with chips is set in stone. The South Korean media announced this today. Both Samsung and HK Hynix will reportedly stop trading semiconductors with Huawei starting next Tuesday, September 15, leaving Huawei with few to no options for securing DRAM and NAND flash chips. The reason for Samsung’s obvious decision to stop trading with Huawei is because of additional sanctions imposed by the US Department of Commerce last month. Although the original sanctions did not apply to memory chip manufacturers, the new rules imposed by the U.S. government state that any semiconductor company using hardware or software technology manufactured in the United States must obtain Washington’s approval before trading with Huawei.
