Redmi Smart Band review: Value for money – Gadgets Now

Back in 2014, Xiaomi announced its first fitness band called Mi Band and it was also among the first brands to bring affordable yet functional fitness bands in Indian market. The Mi Band was a trendsetter in many ways which planted the idea of buying an inexpensive fitness tracking device. The company recently launched

Redmi Smart Band

at the price of Rs 1,599, a first under the Redmi series and it comes with lots of features such as 14 days battery life, biggest display in its segment, touch screen, heart rate sensor, bunch of workout modes, notifications and more.

We have been using this fitness band for a while now and here’s our review of Redmi Smart Band.

Redmi Smart Band: Design and display

Just like smartphones, fitness band’s design has also gone monotonous. Most of them look almost the same and Redmi Smart Band is no different. It has got the typical fitness band look and that’s not a bad thing. Few things are better left untouched. Despite that Xiaomi has managed to differentiate its two fitness bands cleverly. The

Redmi Smart Band features

a completely different aesthetic compared to the Mi Band. The Redmi Smart Band has an overall rectangular design with sharp edges compared to the curved design of Mi Band fitness bands.

The band comes with USB charging and has a dedicated USB Type-A built right into the device, which can be accessed by removing the bottom strap. The back of the watch has a heart rate sensor with a Redmi logo beside it. The fitness band comes with a removable silicone strap that is both rugged and comfortable on the wrist. The belt has a soft touch to it and it does not trigger lots of sweating and hence can be worn the entire day without any issue. The strap also has enough holes to fit perfectly on different wrist sizes.

Redmi Smart Band boasts a 1.08-inch colour LCD touch display which offers decent viewing angles and it is easily visible outdoors even in bright daylight conditions. The colour quality of the display is also acceptable but not the best out there. The screen size is sufficient enough for showing notifications and fitness-related information.

Redmi Smart Band: Performance and features

For starters, the Redmi Smart Band is compatible with both Android and iOS via Xiaomi Wear (Android) and Xiaomi Wear Lite (iOS) apps. Users can download the app and pair the watch instantly. We didn’t face any issues on that part. The app detected the band quickly and the pairing process was also fluid without any hiccups.

As soon as the fitness band is paired, it will start showing the current time along with the date, step count, battery level, etc. Redmi Smart Band also comes with tons of faces to choose from and most of them are good and offer maximum possible information on that tiny screen.

Redmi Smart Band comes with a one-touch capacitive touch button for navigation and users can use that button to navigate back from any screen to the home screen. Users can swipe up or down to navigate through different apps, menu options and tapping on it to open. Swiping left or right one the home screen brings the music controls option.

Talking about its fitness tracker capabilities, the fitness tracker comes with a lot of workout modes, including five professional modes. The band offers outdoor running, cycling, swimming, exercise, treadmill, 24/7 heart rate monitor, sleep tracking, etc.

The fitness band does a good job of counting steps. In our testing, it was accurate and managed to ignore accidental hand movements and mistakenly count that as a step. The running mode also did a decent job of keeping the step count in check along with calorie count. Heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking feature worked fine too.

All the data can be viewed using the Xiaomi Wear app and the app shows all of them in a nice graphical format. The app has an easy to use interface with well laid out menu options. All the necessary information is shown on the home screen with the option to customise them as per the need.

Redmi Smart Band also comes with features like app notifications, weather, clock, timer, countdown, alarm, Find phone, etc. In our test, almost all the features worked just fine.

Redmi Smart Band comes with Bluetooth 5.0 as the connectivity option and we never faced any connectivity issue with the band.

Redmi Smart Band: Battery

Battery life on a fitness band depends on usage patterns. In a normal use case scenario with daily sleep tracking, workout, heart rate monitoring and optimal screen on time, the Redmi Smart Band can easily last over ten days. The band takes around two hours to charge it from 0 to 100%.

Redmi Smart Band: Verdict

At the price of Rs 1,599, the Redmi Smart Band offers a good set of features. It has got good design, comes with a colour touch display and not to forget a rugged and comfortable design. In addition to that, it offers good battery life as well. At this price point, the Redmi Smart Band takes on the likes of Realme Band, Huawei Band 4 and it’s own Mi Band 4. Among all the alternatives, the Redmi Smart Band holds its ground and manages to separate itself without much of an effort. So, if you are looking to get an affordable fitness band, the Redmi Smart Band is worth a look.
