Virgin Mobile is already part of Play. The Violet players spent PLN 59 million

P4, the operator of the Play network, has just announced the finalization of the acquisition of Virgin Mobile. The transaction amount was PLN 59 million.

Virgin Mobile is no longer an independent MVNO virtual operator. In April, there was information about the planned takeover of this network by Play , i.e. an infrastructure telecom providing access to base stations. The deal has just been concluded.

Play takes over Virgin Mobile for PLN 59 million

The information about the finalization of the transaction and its amount was just provided by P4, the operator of the Play network. Thanks to this, we know that on August 6, 2020, the Promised Share Purchase Agreement was concluded, which resulted in the acquisition of 100 percent. Virgin Mobile Polska shares by P4, a subsidiary of Play Communications SA.

The contract amounts to EUR 13.4 million, or PLN 59 million, and the transaction was financed "from own funds and based on external financing available to Play". Its conclusion made it possible to meet all the conditions precedent under the preliminary contract. Both companies also obtained the anti-monopoly approval of the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.

Partners and major investors sold their shares in Virgin Mobile, an MVNO network operating in Poland since 2012. Among them, Delta Partners Emerging Markets TMT Growth Fund II LP and Dirlango Trading & Investments Limited.

The situation of MVNO- type operators in Poland

P4’s takeover of the Virgin Mobile network made the Polish MVNO market even looser than before. It does not seem that anyone will fill this niche quickly and efficiently. Virtual telecoms in our country are not successful .

Currently, the success of such a virtual operator can be considered basically not only creating a profitable business, but building a subscriber base and reselling it to someone from the so-called the big four. In the case of Virgin Mobile, it worked.

Existing customers will still be able to use the services provided on Play transmitters under the Virgin Mobile flag. The brand is to exist as a separate entity in the P4 offer, just like Red Bull Mobile.
