Is it possible to improve the formula of a homemade coffee machine at all? The Miele CM5 Silence shows that it can.
Coffee machines available on store shelves have so many common features that even experts often find it difficult to clearly indicate which is the more and which is the less worthy of attention.
Many of them do the same, even more look almost identical, but not much is distinguished by something really special.
It’s different with the Miele CM5 Silence.
The eye is attracted by an elegant, modern design. The simple, two-color body is available in four color variants: Rose Gold, Obsidian Black, Blacberry Red and Alusilver Metallic.
The elegant simplicity of the front of the device includes a clear display and several buttons for selecting the most popular coffee drinks on a glossy panel.
Only the first coffee brewing reveals the Miele CM5 Silence distinguishing feature, which is – nomen-omen – silence.
Thanks to the new grinder mechanism, the coffee machine is really quiet. Not completely silent, of course, but it generates little noise so that you can make coffee in the early morning without waking up the rest of the household, even in a small apartment.
The entire brewing process – from grinding to pouring the brew – is therefore much quieter than in other constructions of this type, and this is an advantage that cannot be overestimated. When I put the Miele CM5 in my kitchen, I immediately noticed that it is not only quieter than other coffee machines that passed through the kitchen, but it makes less noise even than the small automatic grinder I use to grind my overflow coffee.
Speaking of coffee – what will we brew in Miele CM5 Silence?
The machine can brew all the most important types of coffee: Ristretto, Espresso, Coffee and Long Coffee, Cappuccino, Caffe Latte and Latte Macchiato. We can also heat milk with it, and the CM 5500 model can also foam it or heat water.
The operation of the coffee machine is very simple. On the panel above the nozzle, there are several touch buttons that control the device. If you want to get to any of the drinks for which there is not enough space on the main panel, just two taps on the buttons on the right side of the screen.
Thanks to the One Touch for Two function, we can brew two coffees at the same time, both black and white. The machine will then prepare two identical drinks.
The possibility of creating two user profiles in the CM 5510 models is very useful. Each coffee in Miele CM5 Silence can be freely modified, adjusting its intensity, quantity and degree of grinding to personal preferences. So two people can adjust the parameters and call them up with one touch, instead of changing the settings of the machine each time.
What does coffee from a Miele CM5 Silence espresso machine taste like?
In short: great. And to expand a bit: it all depends, of course, on what kind of coffee we put into the grinder. However, as long as we take care of the proper quality of the beans, we can be calm about the taste and expressiveness of the brewed brew.
I tested the Miele CM5 Silence on the proprietary Miele Black Edition coffees. It is a collection of four types of beans, intended for various drinks.
- Black Edition – One for All is 100 percent. arabica, suitable for brewing any coffee.
- Black Edition – Espresso is a classic mixture of 80 percent. Arabica and 20 percent. robusta, designed strictly for brewing the smallest, strongest coffees.
- Black Edition – Cafe Crema is a blend dedicated to milk coffees.
- Black Edition – Decaf is addressed to those who like the taste of coffee, but do not necessarily want to feel energized after it.
Personally, I am a fan of coffee that is not very intense, but drunk in large quantities, so I used the One for All blend the most.
Enthusiasts of a large amount of coffee or drinking it in larger groups will also like the "Jug" function, which will brew more coffee at once.
The Aromatic System technology is responsible for the proper taste and quality of all drinks.
The dynamic brewing unit expands as the water rises so that the ground coffee mixes intensively with the water. Remember that the quality of the brewing unit is crucial for the taste and aroma of coffee. The Aromatic System adjusts the temperature and pressure of the water to extract as much aroma from the ground coffee as possible.
The coffee machine squeezes the grains to the last drop, and finally the discs imprinted from the grounds are placed in the container, which can then be thrown on compost or used, for example, for home fertilizer for flowers.
It’s hard to fault anything when it comes to the operation and maintenance of the Miele CM5 Silence.
The process of operating and cleaning the machine is really easy.
Operation – apart from replacing the glass and choosing the right drink – comes down to pouring coffee into the grinder and pouring water into the container.
This one is located on the left side of the coffee machine and it is very easy to remove it, because it has a removable handle under the plastic cover. The container can be filled when it is placed in the coffee machine or removed, and washed in the dishwasher when the need arises.
Cleaning the device is very simple. The machine automatically performs a basic rinse, it is also easy to disassemble and wash (most parts can be washed in the dishwasher).
When it’s time to descale, you also don’t need to do anything except add the descaling tablet to the water circuit. In addition, the machine will warn us that it is necessary to descale the machine when there are less than 50 coffee deliveries left in it. Thanks to this, the device will not surprise us with a sudden message and refusal to cooperate, and we will be able to prepare for maintenance.
Durability: as befits a premium product.
The Miele CM5 Silence coffee machine is not the cheapest coffee machine. The price of CM5 models starts from PLN 3799. This is more than the average coffee machines, but we also pay for above-average quality here. This is a premium class, and for a premium class, the price is really reasonable.
In addition, when buying such a machine, we do not have to worry about its lifetime. Miele tested CM5 Silence with 25,000 brew an espresso. Assuming that we will brew coffee three times for two people a day, it should last nearly 12 years without major problems.
When buying a Miele CM5 Silence coffee machine, we buy not only a pass to delicious coffee every day, but also a machine that will brew this coffee for many years.
