TWS sales in the SEA region is rather interesting – Nasi Lemak Tech


Bet you never know that True Wireless Stereo (TWS) or true wireless earbuds, has outsold other smartphone peripherals during Q1 of 2020 for the South East Asian market.

According to a report by Canalys, Xiaomi has been slowly increasing its market share over recent years with the latest figures bolstering itself to the number 1 spot for the Philippines and Indonesia market. They are not bad in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand either, placing itself in 2nd or 3rd place.

That’s no surprise since our own review video of the Redmi AirDots (also known as the Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic) goes to show that there are a lot of people searching for it. It offers amazing value for its price.

Then, Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds+ is also highly recommended by us because of the features it offers, alongside great battery life and fantastic software experience. Of course, there’s a price to pay for all these.

The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic was also announced on July 15 so it is assumed that the company is really pushing their agenda for more affordable TWS in the future.

Many companies have started to notice the surging demands of TWS earphones due to their easy-to-connect features and sound quality it provides without the hassle of cabling and some TWS case acts as a portable battery pack for the earbuds as well.

It is also good to see the TWS market getting products from all sorts of price ranges. We have reviewed many of them (and more to come soon), so it can be confusing while choosing the perfect pair of TWS for your needs.

If there’s something that bothers me a lot to the point that it discourages me to not use them, its the fact that it runs on 2.4GHz band which is the same as any WiFi connections. This will cause interference to both of them if you don’t connect to a 5GHz channel instead. What’s more, the Bluetooth module in some of the cheapest ones has a very weak signal blaster that will result in frequent disconnections as well – though it had gotten better over the years.

But if you are willing to look past the issues by considering some of the mid-high to premium tiers of TWS or just using the 5GHz Wi-Fi band then you’ll definitely have a lot of cordless and portable fun and music enjoyment on the go.
