MediaTek mmWave 5G chip is delayed, will be launched in the second half of 2021

While MediaTek has now launched its own 5G chips, there is no support for high-frequency mmWave bands in the processors.

Previously, it was reported that MediaTek would launch its new chips with the newer and faster bandwidth in the second half of 2020. But now the start is delayed and should only happen in the second half of 2021.

According to a new report, MediaTek has postponed the plan to launch 5G chips with the mmWave tapes and will start mass-producing these chips in the second half of 2021. These new processors are expected to be among the company’s current dimension chips. In addition, we can also expect performance improvements, not only in terms of networking, but also in terms of CPU and GPU.

The new chips are based on the 5nm process # and have the ARM Cortex A78 / X1 architecture with Mali G78 GPU. Thus MediaTek could offer a refresh of the Dimensity 1000+ chips or a completely new name.
