Next electric MINI: 5-door crossover SUV with a cobalt-free battery

The new electric MINI will be a 5-door crossover SUV with a cobalt-free battery. This is now reported by Autocar . There will also be a combustion engine model.

A few days ago it was reported that the BMW subsidiary MINI was planning an electric SUV. Now it is becoming more concrete, further details on the model are available.

Both models will use the latest modular platform from BMW. The all-electric crossover SUV from MINI is said to have installed a new generation of cobalt-free battery cells from SVolt.

Paceman & Traveler: Is that the name of the new electric MINI?

It has not yet been confirmed, but insiders say that the model could be launched as a MINI Paceman. After the electric crossover, MINI will also introduce a larger SUV model 2024, which will probably bear the name Traveler.

The new electric Mini, which is designed for both the Chinese market and for export, is to be manufactured in a factory in Zhangjiagang, 100 km from Shanghai.

The new plant is currently under construction and is scheduled to go into operation in 2022 with around 3,000 employees and an initial capacity of 160,000 cars per year, including the Mini and Great Wall Motor models.
