Germany: All petrol stations should provide charging stations for electric cars
As part of the new, increased purchase premium for electric vehicles , Germany will require petrol stations to offer electric vehicle charging. Details of the plan are not yet known, such as the schedule and the type of chargers required. But advocates quickly praised the move as a boost to the introduction of electric cars.
The BDEW, Germany’s Association of Energy and Water Management, believes that at least 70,000 charging stations and 7,000 quick charging stations are required to create a mass market for electric cars in Germany. According to the BDEW, there are currently around 28,000 stations in Germany.
According to Reuters , electric cars made up just 1.8 percent of new car registrations in Germany last year, with diesel and petrol vehicles accounting for 32 percent and 59.2 percent, respectively.
Germany doubles the existing subsidies to EUR 6,000.00 for electric vehicles, which cost up to EUR 40,000.00. Germany will also introduce higher taxes for thirsty SUVs with combustion engines.
