Deutsche Telekom: Armageddon would be a Huawei ban

Should one allow Huawei in the German 5G network or not? This is currently also of concern to German politics, even if the topic is not so present at the moment. Deutsche Telekom is also concerned about this.

Internally , Telekom is of course preparing for a worst-case scenario. Huawei’s ban on German telecommunications networks is likely to have a number of serious consequences.

Internally, Telekom therefore refers to a possible Huawei ban as Armageddon. This would cost a lot of money, the hardware would have to be removed for years, even with 4G, and with the 5G expansion one would be thrown back again.

How to proceed now? Even in Berlin, politics don’t know that yet. The SPD is against an approval from Huawei for the German 5G network, the CDU in the form of Chancellor Merkel and Minister of Economics Altmaier for it.

But where are the alternatives to Huawei? Nokia? Ericsson? You have to wait and see. But maybe the Telefonica O 2 route is the right one?
