Huawei orders 300 percent more MediaTek chips

The US ban on Huawei was extended a few days ago, in addition to another year to the company from its main chip supplier TSMC cut . To overcome this, the Chinese telecom giant is already talking about several alternatives such as MediaTek.

Huawei is one of the three largest smartphone companies that are able to design their own chipsets. However, due to the U.S. ban, it cannot continue to place new orders to manufacture its HiSilicon-Kirin chipsets with TSMC.

As a result, the company sought refuge with other chip suppliers. The company has been using MediaTek chipsets in their smartphones for years. According to recent reports, Huawei’s orders for MediaTek chipsets have increased by 300 percent this year.

The Chinese smartphone maker is expected to use the Taiwanese chipmaker’s 5G chipsets in both the mid-range and flagship models. Previously, he only used MediaTek’s 4G chips in his lower and middle segments.

The report also adds that MediaTek is currently reviewing whether it has sufficient resources to meet Huawei’s requirements.
