Xiaomi Power Bank 2 Review – All You Need to Know About It.


Recently Xiaomi released the next generation to its 20000 mAh Power Bank series, the Xiaomi Power Bank 2. The price is retained the same of its predecessor. In this article, we take a deep dive including ripping off Mi power bank 20000mAh to provide you with the detailed analysis of Xiaomi Power Bank 20000mAh, including the changes made when compared to its predecessor.
The packaging is comprehensive in its white paper box, with the product label in the front.
The back of the package is consistent with its predecessor, with its security labels.
On the side of the package, there isn’t much information, except for the “two-way fast charge” logo, a confirmation for Xiaomi fans, who waited for a year for it.
Remove the transparent seal to pull the inner box.
The package contains, a manual, a Power Bank and a micro USB cable.
The front and back surfaces have anti-slip pattern for better grip. However, the sides are smooth.
Xiaomi Power Bank 2 has a protective tape on the top, to prevent dust. You will have to remove it to use the device.
The Power button is on the side of the Mi power bank 20000mAh. It is slightly away from the edges in order to avoid accidentally pressing the button.
The USB panel is slightly concave to avoid any friction to the socket. The power level is displayed with four white LEDs.
There are two conventional Type-A USB output slots on either side, and a Micro USB slot for input. Though there is no fast charge sign, both the output supports fast charge.

The body and case cover are welded together with ultrasonic welding, and clamp is not extended.
Like its predecessor, Xiaomi Power Bank 2 has ATL/LISHEN batteries, which seems to be like old buddy to Mi Power Bank. With power rating of 38.5 Wh at maximum of 4.4 V, this high voltage electric core can provide high energy density and better discharge efficiency.
The PCB is fixed to the backside of the case by 4 screws.
The plastic housing has been extended to provide a buffer space, protecting the batteries, so that the batteries cannot be damaged due to accidental slips.
As you can observe, the LED indicator uses the hood to avoid interference. The battery uses 3+2 (left, right, bottom 3 sponges) seismic-resistance sponge tapes for hold the batteries tight.

The upper left corner has the NTC thermistor probe which is responsible for monitoring the temperature of the batteries. Below to this thermistor is an 8205B chip which responsible for surge protection and short circuit of USB. The FT4M7K is the chip from Taiwan’s Fiti power Technology, same as used in Apple and Huawei for quick charge and follows QC3.0 specifications.

The TI TPS61088A fully integrated synchronous boost converter chip can provide 5V/9V/12V output more than 91% efficiency at 2A output. It is fully integrated, high efficiency, low resistance synchronous boost converter chip.
Similar to input charging, a BQ25895 step-down switch chip is used for the output discharge. The two USB output has FP6601Q handshake identification chip offers quick charge output and uses QC 3.0 specifications. The 6-pin chip on the right is Mitsumi’s lithium battery charging protection IC.

The four white LED indicator lights. Two USB output has FP6601Q fully integrated chips, and you can easily plug that into a quick charge. However, it is important to note that you cannot double the output of the QC, as the output of the double port will be limited to 5V mode.
The input socket is horned four-post plated Micro USB seat, which is more robust and more durable than the simple patch type.
The output socket is the foot flat Type-A female port seat housed on a very strong 4 column through-hole soldering.
The NTC thermal probe is placed between two batteries to monitor the temperature more accurately.
Overvoltage Protection MOSFET
The opening of the battery pack is protected by nice paper insulation. The nickel belt connects the batteries to the PCB by 4 solder joints, and the two batteries are connected to the PCB positive and negative sides respectively.
5V output step: starting voltage 5.02V, ending voltage 4.83V. The maximum current is 2.9A, and the maximum power is 14W. 5V mode has dual voltage platform approach. This multi-step setting can take into account both small current linear charging equipment and voltage sensitive large current charging equipment.
9V output step: starting voltage 9.00V, ending voltage 8.29V. The maximum current is 2.9A, and the maximum power is 24W. 0.1A~2.6A is the normal output mode. After 2.7A, the voltage begins to decrease and enter the power limitation stage.
12V output step: starting voltage 12.00V, ending voltage 8.25V. The maximum current is 2.9A, and the maximum power is 23.9W. 0.1A~1.9A is the normal output mode. After 2.0A, the voltage begins to decrease and enter the power limitation stage.
So, is Xiaomi power bank 2 worth buying? Retaining the same price as its predecessor, but can’t say if that is plus or not, because as a matter of fact some aspects are cut off. So, to be honest, this new xiaomi powerbank 20000mAh can finally start returning to a worthy stage.
